Ideas
There are 3 themes that run in all my manifesto points however and they are: Transparency, Value for Money, and Empowering Ordinary Students.
As you read the different sections you will see these 3 themes are co-dependent.
Transperancy in relation to public/student money is vital if we are to direct funds where it is most needed in the Univesrity.
Students have the right to see what their money is spent on, and to demand that it be spend where they need it most i.e. Health Centre,
not paying rent on UCC buildings or filling potholes.
Value for Money in the quality of the services we have? Do our access labs have enough printers and computers, or even one in Westgate?
Do we need new ones or just to service the old ones? What are the costs of student life and living, such as prices in the recently took-over Student Centre? How much money are we paying in, how much profit is it making, and should items be cheaper and is there more we can do with its space?
Also: no log tables in exams for Maths/physics exams? Stupid things like this need to change.
Empowering Ordinary Students is the key to changing UCC for the better by means of creating a powerful, informed and active student body.
Information and communication, backed up by strong campaigns on important issues to create a student body where ALL are represented and
ALL are included is our key to success on any issue. Increased student representation on UCC committees, along with a massive reform of the
Students’ Union are all key elements of this.
